The House of Representatives Committee on Public Petitions has adjourned until Sept 30 2026, further hearing on a petition by over 4000 law graduates of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) on issues affecting their progression into the legal profession.
Moreso, the Chairman of the committee, Hon. Dr. Anthony Matthew Nwogu, directed all parties to ensure that all relevant correspondence and responses were duly filed before the next sitting for proper consideration on this matter
Hon. Nwogu said the matter was crucial to a large number of people across the country, stressing that the committee would take a decision after the third reset urged the parties to complete all filings to enable members of the committee to study the submissions before reaching a decision on the petition.
However, the petition, numbered 902, was filed by law graduates of NOUN against the university, the Nigerian Law School and the Council for Legal Education the petitioners appeared before the committee for the first hearing, led by Dr. Adeniyin Oladele, President of the NOUN Law Graduates.
Other representatives included Nora John, Vice-President; Chibueze Kenneth Oboji, Public Relations Officer; and Dr. Oke H. Ofo, a member of the group.
Also, the petition concerns an inter-agency agreement involving NOUN, the Nigerian Law School and the Council for Legal Education, with the graduates seeking resolution of issues surrounding their progression into the legal profession.
Therefore,the committee directed the parties to complete all filings ahead of the next hearing and subsequently adjourned the matter until Sept 30, 2026, for further proceedings.
