The Delta State Police Command has today, 15th September 2026, commenced Operation VELVET across the State in compliance with the directive of theout Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu. The operation is aimed at strengthening compliance with vehicle and traffic regulations, improving road safety and enhancing security across the State.
The operation targets vehicles without valid documents, unregistered vehicles, vehicles without number plates, and vehicles bearing defaced, obscured, altered or deliberately covered number plates. In the metropolis, ten (10) vehicles were contravened for traffic violations and were subsequently taken to the mobile court in Asaba and presently undergoing judicial processes.
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Samuel Etaifo Erale led the flag-off in Asaba, while the exercise simultaneously commenced across all nine Area Commands, and police divisions in the State.
Addressing the press, the CP urged motorists and vehicle owners to ensure that their vehicles are properly documented and approved number plates clearly displayed. He charged officers deployed for the exercise to be firm, civil and professional, warning that extortion, harassment or any form of misconduct will not be tolerated.
The CP solicited the cooperation of motorists and assured the public that enforcement will be conducted professionally, lawfully and with due regard for the rights and dignity of citizens. He reaffirmed the Command’s determination to ensure proper identification of vehicles, deny criminal elements the use of improperly identified vehicles, and strengthen the safety and security of roads across Delta State.
