The Oba of Shasha Kingdom, Oba Nasiru Babatunde Ogunronbi, has urged Seriki Hausa and leaders of the Hausa communities across Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State to intensify efforts toward improving public health, strengthening community security and mobilising residents for the 2027 general elections.
The monarch made the call during a meeting with traditional heads of Hausa community representatives held at his palace in shasha, Alimoso area of Lagos state.
Oba Ogunronbi who explained that resistance to vaccination could expose children to preventable diseases and undermine public health initiatives charged the Serikis to educate their subjects on the importance of child immunisation and encourage parents to cooperate with health workers during vaccination exercises.
The monarch also called on the National Orientation Agency, NOA, to intensify enlightenment campaigns across communities to provide residents with accurate information on the benefits of immunisationa and further expressed concern over the alleged involvement of some cart pushers and scavengers in criminal activities, describing their excesses as a threat to peace in some communities.
He therefore directed the Serikis to strengthen local security structures and collaborate with relevant stakeholders to improve surveillance and community policing in order to maintain peace and security across their respective domains.
On the 2027 general elections, Oba Ogunronbi appealed to members of the Hausa community to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs, and participate actively in the electoral process and urged them to galvanize support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term and Dr. Obafemi Hamzat as Governor of Lagos State, stressing that Alimosho, with its large population, should reflect its strength in voter turnout.
Speaking with newsmen after the peaceful deliberation, the Sarkin Hausawa of Shasha land, Alhaji Ilyasu Isah Kira, gave assurance of positive change in response to issued raised as they will embark more on grassroot sensitization amongst the area community.
Also in his words of assurance the General Secretary of the Arewa community leaders in Alimosho, Ibrahim Abubakar Jagaba, said the Serkins across the six local councils in Alimosho would intensify public enlightenment on vaccination and encourage residents to support efforts aimed at protecting children and eliminating polio.
He added that the Hausa community would continue to promote peace, responsible citizenship and participation in democratic processes, including voter registration ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The community leader appealed to residents to work together with traditional institutions and government agencies, saying cooperation and mutual understanding are key to achieving sustainable development and peaceful coexistence in Alimosho.
