The attention of the Board of Trustees of the National Compliance Joint Taskforce of Licensed Clearing Agents (NCJTFLCA) has been drawn to the above-mentioned report published by you on the 31st July, 2026 issue of The Reporter Diary.com.
In the said report you claimed that six (6) officers of National Compliance Joint Task Force of Licensed Clearing Agents, NCJTFLCA, refused to honour police invitation to Federal Investigation Department (FID) for investigation on allegations levied against them in a petition forwarded to the IGP. According to your report also, the officers were named as Adaba Lawal, Dennis Onyejegbu, A. O. Vincent, Barnabas Okoro, Frank Ukor, Ezekiel Onuoha, Ben Ndee and Alex Nwokedi. The report further fingered the officers of FCID Alagbon as complicit by obstructing and frustrating investigation of allegations against the persons named.
After a careful review and consideration of your report the Board of Trustees of NCJTFLCA views the publication as false, misleading, malicious, prejudicial, and, particularly in a bad taste intended to malign and ridicule members of Board of Trustees and portray our reputable organization in bad light. The report is a figment of your imagination which presents an untrue and distorted story of the accurate account of the matter and should be retracted immediately.
The Board is concerned that your false story defamatory with the implications for portraying the affected individual Board members and the organisation as criminal elements and subjecting them to public ridicule, dissaffection, embarrassment and reputational damage.
To correct the misinformation conveyed in your publication we wish to place the following facts on record to correct the impression created in the minds of your readers.
The dispute between Chief Basil Chudi Nwaolisa and the Board of Trustees members and elders of NCJTFLCA arose from query issued to him by the Board on various allegations of misconduct including corruption and abuse of power as the interim National President of NCJTFLCA delivered to him in April, 2026. In his response to the query which demanded polite explanation for of corruption of misconduct levied against him by the Board, Chief Basil Nwaolisa insulted Board members, using impertinent words to characterize them and calling them names and threatening violence.
At a Board meeting held at Mambo Hotel, Festac, Chief Basil Nwaolisa
stormed the venue with six (6) armed policemen from Area ‘E’ Police Command, Festac, to intimidate and arrest members. The Board in a subsequent meeting reviewed his acts of intimidation, harassment and act of criminality, and resolved to suspend him from his position as interim National President of the organization, and appointed an Ag. National President pending resolution of his case.
However following the seriousness of the trumped up malicious allegations contained in his petition to Area E command against Boand members, and the resolve to bring him to answer the various allegations of corruption and misconduct contained in the Board’s query previously issued to him, which he was avoiding, the Board subsequently lodged complaints against him at FCID, Alagbon Annex. The petition to FCID Alagbon was taken by the Board to consolidate the petitions, and ensure an impartial investigation of the allegations.
Chief Basil Nwaolisa was consequently served an invitation by FCID Alagbon to appear before the investigation police officer on……………but he declined with impunity, boasting of his contact with the police top hierarchy. On enquiry it was disappointingly discovered that DIG Ibrahim Baba Zango had instructed that Chief Basil Nwaolisa should not appear at FCID, Alagbon.
Chief Basil Nwaolisa had earlier brazenly boasted of his relationship with Ibrahim Baba Zango, displaying their pictures on Facebook and threatening to deal with Board members with his contact.
Surprisingly rather than honour invitation for the investigation of our petitions at FCID Alagbon, Lagos where all the parties are resident, he ran to FID, Abuja with the assistance of his friend, DIG, Ibrahim Zango for protection, and to secure a suspicious invitation to the six (6) Board members.
Considering the suspicious circumstances under which the FID, Abuja invitation was procured, the Board petitioned Inspector-General of Police requesting a consolidation of all the petitions and reversion to FCID, Alagbon, Lagos where they originated and the IGP directed that all the petitions be consolidated and reverted to FCID, Alagbon for investigation by the the FCID, Alagbon.
Upon receipt of the IGP’s order, the IPO, in charge of the matter at FCID, Alagbon, again served Chief Nwaolisa another invitation in July………2026 to appear for investigation our petitions but he again, declined on the orders of DIG Ibrahim Baba Zango who gave a counter order that Chief Basil Nwaolisa should not be appear contrary to IGP’s directive. Out of frustration, the CP, FCID, invited the representative, of the Board of Trustees, Mr. A O. Vincent and informed him to convey to the Board the counter order by DIG Zango on………… This current position of the matter between NCJTFLCA Board and members is that Chief Basil Nwaolisa has repeatedly refused to appear before FCID, Alagbon for the continuation of the allegations against him. Chief Basil Nwaolisa is in the habit of using the same contact to frustrate reported to police against. The Board of Trustees of NCJTFLCA has already petitioned the IGP and the Police Service Commission on the undue interference in their case against Chief Basil Nwaolisa.
Against this background, the Board refutes your unverified and misleading report which presents NCJTFLCA and its Board members as complicit in a criminal investigation. Contrary to your report, the Board of Trustees members named in your publication are men of honour and integrity and did not, and will not refuse to honour any lawful invitation by police for investigation. As an advocacy group campaigning for compliance with laws, transparency and accountability and fighting against corruption and disorders in the society we have no habit of disobeying due process, rule of law and order. The inability of the members to honour the purported invitation by FID, Abuja was based on the directive of the IGP that the petitions be consolidated and reverted to FCID Alagbon, Lagos where the matter originated.
Chief Basil Nwaolisa has no evidence of any allegations he trumped up against the named Board members of NCJTFLCA in his petition. His petition was diversionary intended only evade investigation and to redirect attention of police from the very heinous offences alleged against him by Board members in the query issued to him, and to use his police contact for protection.
Your failure to carry out thorough and adequate research on the matter between the named Board members of NCJTFLCA and Chief Basil Nwaolisa leaves much to be desired and renders you complicit in the matter. Importantly too for your information, mere invitation by police for investigation is neither a conviction nor does it constitute a finding of guilt under the law.
The Board is deeply concerned that without sufficiently establishing the veracity and present status of the matter you hurried to press to portray the organization in manner capable of damaging the reputation of the affected officers and the organisation. We expected more from you.
The NCJTFLCA is committed to the principles of INTEGRITY, TRANSPARENCY AND ACCOUNTABILITY, and we shall continue to cooperate with lawful investigations by the relevant government and security agencies. The organisation has no intention of interfering with, obstructing or undermining any legitimate investigation.
Having carefully considered the serious reputational consequences of your publication, the Board of Trustees of the NCJTFLCA hereby demands that you:
- Immediately retract and withdraw the said publication from circulation from all platforms under your control within twenty-four (24) hours of receipt of this letter.
- Publish an unreserved public apology and clarification to the NCJTFLCA and the six (6) affected officers, in a manner and prominence reasonably equivalent to that of the original publication, including publication in three national newspapers, correcting the misleading impression created by the publication.
- Cease and desist from further publication or dissemination of the said allegations or any substantially similar material concerning the affected officers and the NCJTFLCA unless such publication is supported by verified facts and presented in a fair and responsible manner.
The Board considers the publication to be a serious matter and reserves all rights and remedies available to the organisation and the affected individuals under Nigerian law.
TAKE NOTICE that should you fail, neglect or refuse to comply with the above demands within 24 hours of the receipt of this letter of rejoinder, the Board of Trustees and the National Executive Council of the NCJTFLCA shall, instruct its legal team to commence such legal steps as may be necessary to protect the reputation, rights and interests of the organisation and the affected officers, including seeking commensurate damages together with such other reliefs as may be considered appropriate to assuage the injury suffered by your publication.
