The Lagos State Police Command has arrested 14 suspects in connection with the violence that disrupted the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries election at Muslim Junior College, Liasu Road, Egbe, in the Alimosho area of the state.
The incident, which occurred on Onilewura Street, Liasu Road, Egbe, caused panic among party members and residents as hoodlums allegedly stormed the venue and opened fire sporadically.
Prior to this incident, The Area “M” Commander ACP Tokunbo Abaniwonda accompany by Ikotun Divisional Police Officers CSP Kabir promptly arrive the scene to restored Normalcy.
Eyewitnesses said the armed hoodlums disrupted the electoral process, forcing voters and party officials to flee for safety.
The attackers were also alleged to have taken advantage of the chaos to rob residents and participants of their mobile phones and other valuables.
Confirming the incident, the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Femi Adeoye, said no life was lost during the attack, contrary to rumours circulating in some quarters.
Adeoye, however, disclosed that several persons sustained varying degrees of injuries during the sporadic shooting.
He said the suspects responsible for the mayhem had been arrested and taken to the Ikotun Divisional Police Station for further investigation.
According to him, locally made guns and other incriminating items were recovered from the suspects during the operation.
“The hoodlums responsible for the disturbance have been arrested and taken to Ikotun Divisional Police Station. Locally made guns were also recovered from them.
“No one was killed in the incident, although several persons sustained injuries following the sporadic shooting,” he said.
The police spokesperson assured residents and party supporters that investigations were ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the attack and to ensure that all those involved are brought to justice.
He also urged residents to remain calm and continue to cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information that could assist ongoing investigations.
The incident created tension in the area, with many residents expressing concerns over the increasing activities of political thugs during electoral processes.
