The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, has expressed confidence in his victory in the upcoming Edo State governorship election.
Shaibu said he would definitely defeat the preferred candidate of the state Governor, Godwin Obaseki.
Shaibu said this during a TVC program on Monday evening.
This comes just 24 hours after he officially announced his intention to run for the Peoples Democratic Party’s nomination in the party’s upcoming primaries.
Following his announcement, Shaibu opened his campaign headquarters in Benin City, the state capital. Many party supporters attended this event.
“Obviously, I will defeat the so-called governorship candidate, not because I have power, but because Edo people want their way and I want mine. Edo people do not want imported goods. They want what’s theirs.
“The problem I have with the governor is that he has allowed certain interests in governance to come between us.
“He manages it in his own style and the way he thinks he can handle it. I also manage it the way I think I can manage it.
“I understand the intimidation and oppression I experienced when I said I was pressured but not upset,” said the gubernatorial aspirant.
