Rivers Crisis: PDP invades, urges rival party members to sheathe their swords

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on all political dissidents in Rivers State to sheathe their swords and promote peaceful and amicable resolution of all issues.

The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Debo Ologunagba, said this in a statement in Abuja on Tuesday.

He made the remarks against the backdrop of political conflict between the governor and a faction of the PDP loyal to former Governor Nyesom Wike, who is currently the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.

Ologunagba said: “The NWC calls on all PDP members and supporters to remain calm and engage in a process utilizing the party’s internal dispute resolution mechanism to ensure that all issues and areas of disagreement are addressed. I can assure you that it has started.”

“The NWC, therefore, urges all leaders, key stakeholders and our great party members in Rivers State to come together in unity and undertake the difficult task of delivering the dividends of governance and democracy to the people.

Recall that on Monday, some members of the Rivers State House of Assembly filed a notice of impeachment against Governor Sim Fubara.

Violence broke out and police fired multiple tear gas canisters, a move that threatened to lead to a breakdown of law and order.
