Over 400kg of Indian hemp seized from Ex-soldier and civilian

A retired soldier and a civilian, has been apprehended by the Nigerian Navy Ship Lugard (NNSL), along the Ajaokuta-Lokoja road in kogi State,
with over 400 kilograms of substance suspected to be cannabis sativa (Indian hemp).

Commodore Ugochukwu Ajulu, who is the Commander, NNS Lugard Lokoja, had on Friday in Lokoja before he handed the suspects with their illicit substances, over to officers of the NDLEA, paraded the two suspects, Denis Foukorighe (retired Corporal in the Army) and Paul Obor (both natives of Benue State), said the suspects loaded the substance into a Honda Accord saloon car, taking the illicit substance from Edo State to somewhere in Area 1, Garki, Abuja, to sell.

According to Commodore Ajulu, he noted that they were both arrested during the Navy’s usual snap checks operations along the Ajaokuta-Lokoja road in Kogi State on Tuesday, urging every security checkpoints in the state to watch out for people transporting illicit substances within the state and to other locations nationwide.

He said, “We are here at NNS Lugard Lokoja to hand over the two culprits and the illicit substances weighing over 400 kilograms, including a Honda salon car, to NDLEA officials for onward prosecution in the law court.”

He further stated that the Navy checkpoints in Kogi have been hyper- active in line with the mandate given to them by the Vice Admiral, Emmanuel Ogalla, the Chief of Naval Staff, stating that the mandate has started yielding positive results which led to the Tuesday’s interception of illicit drugs, advising Nigerian youth to engage in lawful businesses that will give them legitimate income.
