NLC meets to find a living wage

By Oluwadara Akingbohungbe

Ahead of the expected resumption of negotiations between the federal government and unions on a new minimum wage, the Nigerian Labor Congress, NLC, is meeting in Abuja to reflect on achieving adequate wages, living commensurate with current labor costs life.

This comes as the NLC vowed not to be deterred by recent attacks on workers and their leaders in Imo State, which the NLC said posed a serious threat to freedom of association and collective bargaining, as provided for in the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended and ILO Conventions 87 and 98 on Freedom of Association and Collective Bargaining.

These were stated in the welcome speech of the Chairman of NLC, Mr. Joe Ajaero, during the opening session of NLC Harmattan School 2023 with the theme: “Building Workers’ Skills for Policy Engagement” in Abuja.
