The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), has voted Alhassan Yahaya as its new president.
Alhassan Yahaya, who was formerly the Union’s National Deputy President have just emerged the new National President of the union.
He polled with 436 votes in the Union’s recently conducted election whereby defeating Dele Atunbi, the outgoing National Treasurer, who polled with 97 votes and Garba Muhammad polled with 39 votes.
The election delegates from the Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones totalling to 602, inclusive of Federal Capital Territory, were all gathered in Owerri, the capital city of Imo State, to elect the new president of the Union (NUJ).
The new president will take over the power and look into the affairs of the union for the next three years.
However, Alhassan Yahaya’s victory will mark a new chapter for the Union and what is expected of hom is to take head of the union and promoting the welfare of journalists and upholding the principles of good journalism.
Earlier Comrade Christopher Isiguzo, the outgoing National President of the NUJ, assured a smooth transition of power, stating that he would not interfere with the administration of the new leadership.
