In a recent visit to the Chairman of NDLEA Buba Marwa (Rtd), the Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) General Christopher Musa has assured the Nigeria Armed Force leadership commitment to help the drug law enforcement agency curtail the menace of substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking in the country.
From the press statement signed by NDLEA Director, Media and Advocacy Femi Babafemi on Monday 18th December 2023, Marwa commends the CDS for his sacrifice and loyalty in ensuring the security of the country while expressing gratitude for the provision of logistics and training of the agency’s operatives.
While showcasing the recent achievement, Marwa noted that NDLEA under his watch have arrested 42,105 drug offenders, seized 7,500 tons of drugs, destroyed 1,057 hectares of cannabis, convicted 8,350 offenders, and provided counsel and rehabilitation for 29,400 drug users among others.
If our military can build rehab facilities in existing military hospitals, there will be more personnel to attend to the treatment of substance abuse
Speaking at the event, CDS Musa commended the entire management team of NDLEA for the great turnaround on the drug war which has positively improved the perception of Nigeria in the international community.
With the immense achievement of NDLEA, we will continue to support their fight against substance abuse by introducing drug tests in our recruitment processes and operative courses
We need to tackle the menace of drug abuse holistically because there is a parallel line between it and the current security challenges we have today” he added
The CDS stated that drug use gives one fake confidence and continuous usage becomes addictive which makes such a person a danger to himself and everyone close to him.
