Sequel to the statement from the Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission that the upcoming Local government Councils’ election will take place on 25th of May, 2024, this has made the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) in Yobe concluded that the party is no longer interested in participating in the state’s local government elections.
Mohammed Sulayman, who is the Party’s State Organizing Secretary, had through a press briefing held in Damaturu disclosed that the decision not to partake in the upcoming election followed due consultation.
He said: “It is also a known fact in the history of our Dear State Yobe, that Local Government Council elections have never been free, fair, credible, and impartial under the state commission since inception.
“We wish to state that, it is not in any way whatsoever going to be different this time”.
The Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission was also accused by the Organizing Secretary of deliberately refusing to let political parties know about the election activities in the state on time.
He said, “The outrageous cost enforced for the purchase of forms is calculated and deliberate to disfranchise the other political parties from participating in the election”.
