Security operatives on Saturday reportedly arrested the Chairman of the council of Igalamela Local
Government Area of Kogi State, James Onoja, for possession of ammunition and large amounts of
cash.
The money and ammunition recovered were packed in bags.
The money and ammunition were allegedly intended for use in the election.
Video shows the suspects sitting on the ground near the military checkpoint.
In a viral video, the council chairman and his accomplices were seen expressing remorse and asking for forgiveness.
The Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, William Ovye, did not respond to queries at the time of filing this report.
It has been reported that the election has so far been marred by several allegations of vote buying amid low voter turnout.
