Kano State Command, CP Ibrahim rollout the security situation within Kano and the achievements recorded by the command in crime prevention, management and control

  1. As you are aware, the primary responsibility of the Police is protection of life and property. When I assumed duty as the 47th Commissioner of Police in the State, I was fully briefed on the security challenges that lay ahead. After obtaining briefs, it become clear that addressing the pervasive issues of thuggery particularly the notorious ‘Fadan Daba’, drug abuse (Kwaya), armed robbery and other violent crimes must be our top priorities. Going forward, the Kano State Police Command has been working diligently to addressing these challenges head-on.

3.b Furthermore, it is a well-established fact that the issue of security is a collective responsibility and a holistic concept that require the active involvement and support of everyone. Over the past four weeks, the Command intensified intelligence-led joint operations, round-the-clock visibility patrols and initiated strategic partnerships with community members.

  1. These proactive and collaborative efforts are yielding positive results. Parts of the successes recorded are the breakthroughs that led to the dismantling of criminal networks that specialized in smuggling of firearms in to the state which led to the recovery of nineteen (19) fabricated revolver rifles with one hundred and fourteen (114) live cartridges and six (6) expended cartridges, as well as recovery of suspected tramadol tablets worth one hundred and fifty million naira (₦150,000,000:00).
  2. From 17th March 2025 to date, a total of one hundred and fifty-seven (157) suspects involved in armed robbery, thuggery (Fadan Daba), theft, illicit drug dealings and other violent crimes were arrested with recovery from them firearms, dangerous weapons, illicit drugs and stolen properties.
  3. Below is the summary of achievements recorded within four (4) weeks;

ARREST
i. Twenty-four (24) armed robbery suspects
ii. Fourteen (14) suspected drug dealers
iii. Seven (7) suspected motor vehicle thieves
iv. Five (5) suspected motorcycle thieves
v. Twenty-eight (28) suspected thieves
vi. Seventy-nine (79) suspected thugs (Yan Daba)
RECOVERY
i. Two (2) English pistols, nineteen (19) fabricated revolver rifles and one (1) fabricated pistol
ii. One hundred and seventeen (117) live cartridges, Six (6) expended cartridges and Eleven (11) live ammunition
iii. Two (2) motor vehicles
iv. Two (2) tricycles
v. Three (3) motorcycles
vi. Consignments of tramadol tablets worth (N150,000,000:00)
vii. Six (6) cartons of Ampicillin Tablets
viii. Twenty-two (22) bottles of suck & die and Sixty-nine (69) sachets and Two hundred and sixty (260) pieces of exol tablets
ix. Fifty-seven (57) cutlasses, Seventy-one (71) sharp knives, Fifteen (15) sharp irons (Dan Bida), Seven (7) scissors, Two (2) axes and one bow, etc.

  1. In order to ensure peace continue to prevail in the State, we have plan to conduct series of community-based engagements and intelligence-led operations at strategic locations in the State with a view to prevent crimes and maintain law and order.
  2. Finally, while I appreciate the continued support of the law abiding people of the State, I encourage everyone to keep cooperating with the Police and be proactive in providing valuable information that will aid in surmounting any emerging security threats that will jeopardize the peaceful atmosphere in the State.

DETAILS OF CASES:

  1. ARREST OF 3 SUSPECTS AND RECOVERY OF NINETEEN (19) FABRICATED REVOLVER RIFLES WITH ONE HUNDRED AND TWO (102) LIVE CATRIDGES AND SIX (6) EXPANDED CATRIDGES:
    Following a credible information received from a community member on 10/04/2025 at about 3:45 pm, a team of Police Operative arrested one Ahmad Mu’azu, ‘m’, 22 years old and Abdul M. Sadiq, ‘m’ 42 years old, all of Kuntau Quarters, Kano in possession of two (2) fabricated revolver rifles. During the investigation, the suspects led investigators to the arrest of one Arma-Ya’u Lawal, Alias Agwada, ‘m’ 37 years old of Gwale LGA, Kano and the supplier of the rifles one Aliyu Sharif, ‘m’, 40 years old of Kano Municipal who revealed that he is supplying the rifles from Plateau State. Further investigation led to the recovery of additional eighteen (18) rifles, totaling twenty (20) with one hundred and fourteen (114) live cartridges and six (6) expanded cartridges. The case is under investigation.
  2. ARREST OF TWO (2) SUSPECTED DRUG DEALERS AND RECOVERY OF CONSIGMENTS OF SUSPECTED TRAMADOL TABLETS WORTH ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY MILLION NAIRA (₦150,000,000:00): On 26/03/2025 at about 09:00pm, based on credible information received, a team of police on patrol led by Divisional Police Officer, Ungogo Division, intercepted and recovered a consignment of six (6) cartons of suspected tramadol tablets hidden under bags of cement loaded inside a truck. Two suspects were arrested, who confessed that the drugs were transported from Sokoto heading to Babura in Jigawa State. The case is under investigation.
  3. ARREST OF TWO (2) SUSPECTED CAR THIEVES AND RECOVERY OF STOLEN MOTOR VEHICLE: On 23/03/2025 at about 01:30am, a team from the Command’s Anti-car theft unit, criminal investigation Department (CID) while on routine patrol along Na’ibawa, Zaria Road, arrested one Ibrahim Mohammad, 29 years old, of Mabushi, Abuja and Zaharadden Ibrahim, 25 years old, of Dorayi Quarters Kano in possession of Toyota Hilux Motor Vehicle, White in color with Reg No. KMC 253 AA. When questioned, they could not give satisfactory account of the motor vehicle. During the course of investigation, the suspects confessed to having stolen the vehicle from Abuja and came to Kano to dispose it. The case has been charged to court for prosecution.
  4. ARREST OF FIVE (5) SUSPECTS AND RECOVERY OF A STOLEN MOTOR VEHICLE: On 04/04/2025 at about 12:55am, based on credible information received, operatives attached to Anti-car theft unit, State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) of the command arrested one Abba Yahaya, 26 years old, male in possession of an unregistered white Toyota Hummer Motor Vehicle at Sharada Quarters, Kano. During a search conducted in the vehicle, a pair of commercial registration number plate was recovered. On investigation, the owner of the vehicle was identified who stated that the vehicle was robbed at Hotoro By-pass. Further investigation, led to the arrest of four (4) other suspects in connection with the case. The vehicle has been handed over to the owner and the case will be charged to court for prosecution.
  5. ARREST OF THREE (3) ARMED ROBBERY SUSPECTS AND RECOVERY OF A RIFLE: On 06/03/2025 at about 02:30pm, a distress call was received from a resident of Railway Quarters, Kano that some armed robbers stormed a residence in the area. On receipt of the report, a team of operatives were drafted to the scene and arrested three (3) suspects at the scene. During the operation, one pistol loaded with three (3) rounds of live ammunition and a locally made pistol loaded with three (3) live cartridges were recovered. The case is under investigation.
  6. ARREST OF ARMED ROBBERY SUSPECT AND RECOVERY OF AN ENGLISH PISTOL: On 06/04/2025 at about 11:30pm, based on credible information received, operatives attached to Anti-Daba Squad of the Command arrested one Ibrahim Mu’azu, ‘m’, at Goron Dutse Quarters, Kano while attempting to rob a motor vehicle Honda Accord 2013 model, Ash in color, with Reg No. JJJ 261 AQ. On spot search, an English pistol loaded with four (4) 9mm live ammunition was recovered in his possession. The case is under investigation.
  7. ARREST OF ARMED ROBBERY SUSPECT AND RECOVERY OF CUTLASS: On 04/04/2025 at about 6:30pm, a team of surveillance patrol while on intelligence-led operation, arrested one Muhammad Usman, ‘m’, 25 years old, of Bachirawa Quarters who attacked an innocent person with a cutlass with intent to rob his mobile phone. The case is under investigation.
  8. ARREST OF A NOTORIOUS ARMED ROBBER AND RECOVERY OF A CUTLASS: On 29/03/2025 at about 9:00pm, Based on series of report received on armed group attacking and robbing innocent members of the public at Ramin Tipa, a team of operatives led by Divisional Police Officer, Rijiyar Lemo Division, raided the area and arrested one Mustapha Yahaya, ‘m’, of Bachirawa Quarters in possession of a cutlass. The suspect confessed to the crime with the case under investigation.
  9. ARREST OF TWO (2) ARMED ROBBERY SUSPECTS AND RECOVERY OF MOBILE PHONE & MONEY: On 28/03/2025 at about 09:30am, a team of police operatives while on round-the-clock visibility patrol intercepted and arrested one Abubakar Iliya and Sani Muhammad, popularly known as “fearless” while coming out from the bush along Kwanar Ikara. During the investigation, the suspects confessed to having using a motor vehicle, disguised as commercial drivers and robbed innocent citizens. So many complaints were received against them after their arrest. A robbed mobile phone and money were recovered from them with the case under investigation.
  10. ARREST OF ARMED ROBBERY SUSPECT AND RECOVERY OF A SCISSORS AND SHARP IRON (DAN-BIDA): On 26/03/2025 at about 06:00pm, a report was received from a resident of Zango Quarters, Kano that one Sabiu Ali, and Gaddafi Ali, all of Zango Quarters, Kano attacked him and robbed his money, the sum of One Hundred and Thirty Thousand Naira (N130, 000:00). As a result, they inflicted injuries on his back and hand. On receipt of the report, a team of detectives were detailed and rushed the victim to hospital for treatment. Sustained follow-up led to the arrest of the suspect after returning from Abuja to evade arrest. The scissors and the sharp iron used in committing the offense were recovered. The case will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.
  11. ARREST OF TWO (2) DRUG DEALERS AND RECOVERY OF 22 BOTTLES OF SUCK & DIE, 69 PIECES OF EXOL TABLETS AND DRY LEAVES SUSPECTED TO BE INDIAN HEMP: On 20/03/2025 at about 12:40pm, a team of policemen while on intelligence-led operation arrested one Arif Sa’eed, 22 years old and Mu’azzam Aminu, 18 years old, all of Gurin Gawa Quarters, Kano in possession of Twenty-two (22) Bottles of suck & die, sixty-nine (69) pieces of Exol Tablets and some dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp. The case is under investigation.
  12. ARREST OF TWO (2) SUSPECTED FRAUDSTERS AND RECOVERY OF TWENTY-ONE THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED COUNTERFEIT USD: On 11/04/2025 at about 7:30 am, based on credible information received from a good Samaritan, team of Police detectives arrested two suspected fraudsters; Nura Abdullahi, ‘m’ 35 years old and Godwin Enchizena, ‘m’ 33 years, all of Sapele in Edo State at Dutse Royal Hotel, Mariri Quarters, Kano. During the investigation, twenty-one thousand five hundred fake US Dollars were recovered. The case is under investigation.
  13. ARREST OF SEVENTY-NINE (79) SUSPECTED THUGS AND RECOVERY OF DANGEROUS WEAPONS & ILLICIT DRUGS: Between 21st March to 15th April, 2025, an intelligence-led raid conducted led to the arrest of seventy-nine (79) notorious thugs with recovery from them dangerous weapons and illicit drugs. The suspects have been charged to court for prosecution.
  14. ARREST OF NOTORIOUS THUG (DAN DABA) AND RECOVERY OF A SHARP KNIFE: On 06/04/2025 at about 11:00pm, a team of police patrol while on intelligence-led raid of criminal hideout at Kadawa, arrested one Auwalu Sani Boss, ‘m’, 23 years old, of Sharifai Quarters, Kano. The suspect is responsible for the escalation of thuggery (Daba) activities in Kadawa, Ungogo Area. Also, a sharp knife and some quantity of dried leaves suspected to be Cannabis Sativa were recovered in his possession. The case is under investigation.
  15. ARREST OF TWO (2) MOTORCYCLE THIEVES AND RECOVERY OF 2 STOLEN MOTORCYCLES: On 25/03/2025 at about 11:30pm, a team of surveillance patrol while on round-the-clock visibility patrol, arrested one Mustapha Sadiq, 25 years old, ‘m’ and Abba Mohammad, 27 years old, ‘m’ all of Sheka Quarters, Kano who conspired among themselves and stolen away two motorcycles at Hamisu Abba Plaza in Tarauni LGA, Kano. The two motorcycles were recovered and the suspect have been charged to court for prosecution.
  16. ARREST OF A SUSPECTED TRICYCLE THIEF AND RECOVERY OF TWO (2) STOLEN TRICYCLES: On 12/0402025 at about 3:45pm, acting a credible information regarding a suspected thief in possession of a stolen tricycle, a team of detective from the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department, Wildlife Section, swiftly mobilized and arrested the suspect and recovered the tricycle with a Reg No. TRN-828-QC. During the investigation, the suspect confessed to the crime and led investigators to a location where another stolen tricycle with Reg No. KMC-771-QA was recovered. The case is under investigation.
  17. ARREST OF A SUSPECTED MOTORCYCLE THIEF AND RECOVERY OF A STOLEN MOTORCYCLE: On 24/03/2025 at about 12:00pm, a report was received from a resident of Ungogo LGA, Kano that one Aminu Yunus, ‘m’, Sheka Gidan Leda, Kano deceived him and stole away his motorcycle UD at Gyadi-Gyadi Court Road, Kano. On receipt of the report, a team detective were detailed to arrest the suspect and recovered the motorcycle. Consequently, the suspect was arrested and the motorcycle was recovered with the case under investigation.
  18. ARREST OF NOTORIOUS SUSPECT SPECIALIZED IN THEFT OF CRITICAL GOVRMENT PROPERTIES: On 25/03/2025 at about 06:30pm, a distress call was received from a good Samaritan who stated that he sighted one Zahraddeen Mukhtar, ‘m’ of Dawakin Tofa LGA, Kano at higher tension transmission tower and he reasonably suspected him. On receipt of the report, a team of detective were mobilized to the scene and arrested the suspect. During the course of the investigation, thirty-eight (38) pieces of transmission towers materials and some quantity of nuts were recovered from him. The case is under investigation.
  19. ARREST OF SUSPECTED THIEF AND RECOVERY OF SIX (6) CARTONS OF AMPICILLIN TABLETS: On 25/03/2025 at about 11:30am, a team of operative while on routine patrol, intercepted and arrested one Aminu Yusuf, 28 years old, ‘m’ of Rimin Kebe Quarters, Kano in possession of six (6) cartons of Ampicillin Tablets. The suspect confessed to having broken a store located at brigade Quarters and stole away the tablets. The case has been charged to court for prosecution.
