INEC/Anambra State sets for election re-run

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has declared its motion, stating that its ready for the February 3 election rerun in Anambra state which includes Nnewi North/Nnewi South/Ekwusigo and Orumba North and Orumba South federal constituencies respectively.

Dr Elizabeth Agwu, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), on Wednesday, revealed this in a statement while speaking with media at the INEC headquarters in Awka.

Dr. Elizabeth said: the election rerun election was as a result of the court order that the election in the 21 polling units in the two federal constituencies be cancelled and be conducted again.

In accordance with Dr. Elizabeth, the election would be held in five polling units: four wards in Nnewi North, 16 polling units and one ward in Orumba North and adequate preparations had been in place to make sure the election was credible, free and fair.

She also made the concerned LGAs known that there is no winner yet, until after the election is being rerun for the candidates in the federal constituencies. Urging the 97,438 voters that have registered in the affected LGAs to all come out and vote their preferred candidates.

She also persuade the 161,914 voters that have registered in Orumba North and South to come out on 3rd of February to vote for their preferred candidates.

Voters are assured of adequate security before, during and after the election, stressing that the commission had been engaging security agencies in meetings to provide adequate security for the electorate willing to exercise their franchise.
