Imo LG polls: SDP discards poll results, threatens to fight legally

By Busari Kabirat

The Imo State chapter of Social Democratic Party (SDP), has made it known that it is ready to fight back over the recently concluded local government election results which took place in the State in court.

The election which took place in 27 local council areas and 305 wards in the state has triggered reactions by the SDP as the party condemned the procedural conditions surrounding the election conduct by the Imo State Independent Electoral Commission, (ISIEC), says the Commission undermine guidelines of the process to favour the APC-led administration.

This was expressed by Ifeanyi Henry Eluwa, the State Chairman of the party in a petition sent to ISIEC. Also made available to the media in Owerri that none of the polling units conducted any election in Imo State, rejecting the claim by ISIEC that there was election.

Eluwa noting that the outcome of the LG polls allegedly rigged by the APC and he will not let it slide.

He stated that, “ISIEC failed to officially demand for and or release form ISIEC DF001 and ISIEC DF002 to the qualified candidates.

“The Commission failed to publish the list of qualified candidates in the constituency where the candidate intends to contest the election.

“The persons and their party declared winner were at the time not qualified to contest the election. The election was invalidated by reasons of corrupt practices and non-compliance with provisions of the law.”
