IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, who is the Inspector-General of Police, had on Thursday, January 18, 2024, spoke to members of Explosive Ordnance Disposal – Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) Commanders and Directing Staff at the IGP’s Conference Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja, where he concede the excellent service of the unit in shielding the nation against advance threats associated with explosive materials.
The IGP, commends the unit playing major role during the Boko Haram insurgency and their efforts in putting a stop to incessant bombing activities.
He categorically made known the recent attainment, which includes the safe rendering of an Anti-disturbance IED at the University of Maiduguri and road clearance operations in various locations in Borno State, making it easy for residents to go back to their various homes.
The IGP also commends the Unit for retrieving five IEDs from an unregistered vehicle after neutralizing three members of a separatist group in Anambra State.
The IGP, is urging the EOD Commanders to be more vigilant, responsive and active in monitoring the production, storage, transportation, importation, distribution, and usage of explosives nationwide. He stressed on the need for professionalism in attempt to fight armed and violent criminals and also his full confidence in the abilities and dedication of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Units, recapitulating the dedication of the NPF under his leadership to investing in trainings and equipping EOD personnel with the latest technologies to enhance their capabilities.
