Former US first lady Rosalynn Carter, wife of former President Jimmy Carter, died Sunday at the age of 96 at the couple’s home in the southern state of Georgia, their charity declared.
Carter is best known for her work after the White House, when she and her husband advocated for human rights, democracy and health issues around the world, while maintaining a low-key public image.
She joined her husband in hospice care at home on Friday after being diagnosed with dementia in May.
