Thus, a Bill for an Act to Establish the Police Service Commission Institute, to serve as a Centre for the Administration and Management of the Commission, and to determine the standard of knowledge and skill to be acquired by the personnel of the Police Service Commission in the oversight of the Nigeria Police Force functions was read in the floor of Senate by Senator Abdulhamid Mallam Madori Ahmed (Jigawa North East)
However, the bill further stated that the Nigeria Police Force is an institution that plays a pivotal role in maintaining law and order, protecting lives and property, and ensuring public safety. However, as with any large organization, it requires structured oversight to ensure its personnel act within the bounds of the law, protect human rights, and maintain the public’s trust.
Therefore, the Chairman Senate committee on police Affair Senator Abdulhamid Mallam Madori Ahmed (Jigawa North East) hit that the Police Service Commission, as the oversight body for the Nigeria Police Force, has the mandate to manage the promotion, discipline, recruitment and general administration of the Nigeria Police Force.
Moreso, that the Institute will provide advanced training for all categories of Commission staff, ensuring they are equipped with the skills necessary to oversee the Nigeria Police Force effectively, in line with modern policing standards.
Also, Senator Abdulhamid Mallam Madori Ahmed Chairman Senate Committee on Police Affair( Jigawa North East )stated that the Institute will actively publish reports, journals, and other informational materials to communicate its activities and findings, thereby contributing to transparency and public accountability.
Furthermore, the bill will serve as a hub for collaboration, promoting cooperation and harmony between oversight bodies, both locally and internationally, in order to strengthen policing structures.
