Eko Club London (ECL) in the United Kingdom has reiterated commitment to renovate more schools and gives scholarships to more Nigerians particularly those living in Lagos in 2024.
The Publicity Secretary of the Club in the United Kingdom, Engr. Anthony Ajayi made this known in a press statement from London on Saturday December 31, 2023 to review the Club’s activities for the year 2023.
According to the statement, Eko Club London is a charitable body, actively participating in the provision of supports to the less privileged, especially those in under-served communities. It added that over the years, the Club has continued to provide various humanitarian services to the less privileged in communities, and this will continue in 2024 beyond the communities covered over the years.
“As a charity body, ECL is well positioned to receive contributions from individuals and corporate bodies. With such support, ECL will continue to provide charitable services to the less privileged without discrimination.
“As Lagosians, we will also advance, promote and project the cultural, social and economic values of Lagosians globally.
“In 2023, several projects were carried out including our medical missions, food drives/donations, clothing/toy drives/donations, scholarship awards, renovation of schools, provision of computer laboratory, monetary and non-monetary donations. Others were assembled medical services, e.g. health fairs and medical missions; food and gift items; non-monetary contributions to charities and non-profits; educational, social and welfare services; medical equipment and supplies, volunteer programs and community service projects amongst many.
“In 2024, we will make sure we expand our net to cover more communities across Nigeria but particularly, Lagos and Southwestern states. We are committed to drive this course in the coming year.
“We therefore call on President Bola Tinubu to remain committed to his promise to secure lives and properties of the citizenry and of broad-based and shared economic prosperity. We are aware that President Tinubu promised to review social investment programmes to enhance implementation and effectiveness. In particular, he promised that the National Social Safety Net project will be expanded to provide targeted cash transfers to poor and vulnerable households.
“We equally call on all the state Governors in Nigeria to ensure that the people feels the dividends of democracy in their respective states. Nigerians are easy people and are not asking for too much from the government”, the statement said.
