This was made known to the press men on the bill sponsor by Senator Hussaini, Babangida Uba Jigawa North West where he stated that this bill seeks to upgrade Jigawa State College of Education Gumel to the Federal University of Education Gumel, Jigawa State which will serve it importance to nation
Senator Babangida noted that the development of a sound and robust educational system in any country is therefore predicated on the availability of qualified and well trained benchers to impact the required knowledge on the students
Also, that the need to have a strong system in our educational sector that shall continuously produce well qualified and trained teachers as is obtainable in other countries cannot be overemphasized. This is the fundamental justification for the establishment of this specialized institution of higher learning: the Federal University of Education Gumel, Jigawa State
Babangida alluded to the fact that that Universities or college of Education are tools for national development that this have led to an unbridled quest for, and vigorous expansion of such institutions in Nigeria
He further stated that if the collage us upgraded to the federal university this will encourage the advancement of learning and to hold out to all persons without distinction of race, creed, sex or political conviction, and to develop and offer academic and professional programmes leading to the award of certificates, first degrees, post-graduate research, diploma and higher degrees with emphasis on planning, developmental and adaptive skills in Education, technology, applied science, agriculture, commerce, arts, social science, humanities, management and allied professional disciplines;
