The Nigeria Police Force, Airport Command, Lagos, in furtherance of its commitment to safeguarding aviation operations and preventing criminal activities capable of undermining passenger movement and cargo integrity, has arrested a suspect in connection with a case of conspiracy, stealing, and fraud involving goods valued at $16,000 CAD (Sixteen Thousand Canadian Dollars), also valued at N17,032,160 (Seventeen million, thirty-two thousand, one-hundred and sixty naira).
The case was reported on 4th December, 2025, when the NAHCO Airport Police Division received a formal complaint concerning a shipment originating from Canada and destined for Lagos. Investigations revealed that one Moshood Olayinka, male, 52 years, fraudulently procured goods from Duplicom Business Products Ltd., Canada, using fake credit card details. The consignment comprised twelve (12) NEC projectors and twelve (12) Automatic External Defibrillators (AED Plus). Although the total value of the goods stood at $16,000 CAD, only $4,000 CAD was fraudulently processed before the transaction was flagged, after the items had already been handed over to a Canada-based shipping company for onward delivery to Nigeria.
Upon receipt of the complaint, the Commissioner of Police, Airport Command, CP Ogunbode Olufunke, Mnips, PhD, immediately ordered a discreet, intelligence-driven, and comprehensive investigation. Subsequent intelligence gathering and proactive policing efforts established that the suspect not only used counterfeit credit cards to facilitate the purchase but also forged an invoice presented to the shipping company to legitimize the fraudulent transaction.
Acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the Airport Command successfully tracked and arrested the suspect, who has since revealed his involvement in the crime. Investigations are ongoing to determine the possible involvement of accomplices and to recover all assets connected to the fraudulent activity. Efforts are also in place to ship the goods back to Canada once investigation concludes and suspect arraigned in court accordingly.
CP Ogunbode reiterates that the Airport Police Command remains resolute in its mandate to combat all forms of criminality within the aviation ecosystem, stressing that the Command will continue to deploy intelligence-led policing strategies to protect Nigeria’s airports, international trade channels, and the travelling public.
