Appendicitis is a pouch in a finger-shape that sticks out from the colon on the lower right side of the abdomen. Appendicitis causes pain in the lower right abdomen.
Causes of appendicitis
Appendicitis is mostly usually caused by different kinds of infections like parasite, bacteria or virus in the digestive tract. Another way is when the tube that joins the large intestine together with appendix is blocked or trapped by stool, tumors also can cause appendicitis. Then the appendix becomes sore and swollen.
Symptoms of appendicitis
It usually starts with middle abdomen pain that goes off and on.
. High temperature and a flushed face.
. Loss of appetite.
. Feeling sick (nausea)
. Constipation or diarrhoea.
. Being sick
How to test when having appendicitis
You are adviced to lie on your left side and extend your right hip, flex your right hip together with your knee and rotate your right hip.
Foods to avoid when having appendicitis
Junk foods, fried foods, processed and fatty foods that can irritate the digestive system.
Alcohol is also harmful to the liver and thus affects digestion, also avoid red meat because it contains a lot of fat and is difficult to digestion, likewise sugary food like pastries, cakes and so on.
Permanent treatment for appendicitis
Surgery is standard treatment and best advice to remove appendicitis. Antibiotics are sometimes used while the diagnosis is being made, but most doctors agree that antibiotics could not totally cure appendicitis.
Foods appendix patient can take after operation
Appendicitis patient is advised to focus diets on liver functioning and boosting one’s immunity. Vitamin C-rich fruits like oranges, lemons, guavas, etc., are included in this diet. Carrots and Sweet Potatoes are also important for an appendicitis diet to include Zinc content.
