Civil society organizations have been called on to work with the new administration, especially lawmakers, to help remove legal and regulatory barriers that hinder their effectiveness.
They were consulted by stakeholders at the 2nd National Conference on the Operating Environment of Civil Society, themed “Sustaining Public benefit from CSOs through Collaboration and enabling Regulation” in Abuja on Wednesday.
The two-day program is organized by the CSO Transparency and Accountability Initiative and funded by the European Union, the British Council and four other international organizations.
Speaking at the event, Head of the EU Delegation to Nigeria, Ambassador Samuela Isopi, said CSOs must set the agenda for lawmakers to create an enabling environment for civic space.
