Thus, the Senate Committee on Legislative Compliance has summoned the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to appear before it on October 28 over the alleged killing of a two-year-old child, Omhonria O. Onosereba Ivan, and the severe injury sustained by his sibling during an NDLEA operation.
However, Committee Chairman, Senator Garba Musa Maidoki (Kebbi South), expressed deep concern over the NDLEA’s failure to implement the Senate’s earlier resolution mandating the payment of ₦200 million compensation to the bereaved family and the immediate sponsorship of medical treatment abroad for the surviving child.
Furthermore, Medical experts have reportedly confirmed that the required eye surgery for the injured child cannot be performed in Nigeria, increasing the urgency for prompt intervention.
And during emotional session with the grieving family on Thursday, Senator Maidoki extended the Senate’s condolences and criticized what he described as the NDLEA’s “consistent disregard for accountability and human life.”
Senator Maidoki said we sincerely feel your pain and are committed to ensuring justice. It is unfortunate that despite the Senate’s clear resolution, the NDLEA has neither acknowledged your correspondence nor taken concrete action to save the surviving child
Inadfition, the family’s lawyer decried the NDLEA’s silence and inaction, noting that no medical arrangements have been made despite the child’s worsening health conditions and senator Maidoki warned that the Senate would invoke legal sanctions if the NDLEA failed to comply with its summons or previous directives.
