Senate sets reform agenda for agricultural colleges seek for global partnership cop30

Thus, the Nigerian Senate has launched a robust reform drive aimed at repositioning the nation’s agricultural colleges and institutions to meet global standards, with a strategic push toward innovation, sustainability, and climate-smart practices.

However, this was disclosed at an interactive stakeholder session convened by the Senate Committee on Agricultural Colleges and Institutions, chaired by Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli, held at the National Assembly in Abuja.

Senator Alli emphasized that agricultural education remains central to Nigeria’s food security, economic diversification, and youth empowerment goals. He unveiled the committee’s comprehensive agenda which includes legislative reforms, increased funding advocacy, enhanced oversight, and international collaborate

Moreso, a major highlight of the session was the announcement that the Senate will lead a delegation of agricultural educators and institutions to the COP30 Climate Conference in Brazil. The goal is to promote green colleges, climate-smart agricultural systems, and to showcase Nigeria’s innovations on a global platform the technical consultant to the committee, Promise Amahah, described the COP30 engagement as a historic move.

That the Senate is not just legislating; it is leading global advocacy. At COP30, Nigeria will present innovations from its agricultural colleges and build international alliances to attract investment and knowledge transfer,” Amahah said.

And Senate also announced plans to convene the first-ever Legislative Summit and Expo on Agricultural Colleges and Institutions in October 2025. Additionally, a Global Benchmarking Tour is slated for early 2026 to study best practices from agricultural institutions in countries like Brazil and across the EU.that these initiatives aim to transform Nigeria’s institutions into “future-ready colleges” through curriculum upgrades, modernized training, and climate-resilient practices.

Senator Alli urged stakeholders to remain committed to the collaborative transformation agenda, stressing that the future of Nigerian agriculture hinges on a responsive and globally competitive education system.
