Certificate Saga: LASU breaks silence on certificate found at Suya Spot

The management of Lagos State University (LASU), has broken silence following a certificate trending online which is said to belong to one of its students which was allegedly used to wrap suya in Lagos.

In accordance with the university, the trending certificate is made known to be invalid.

LASU, had in an official statement said, the certificate found contained a misspelled name, surname to be precise, which made it invalid.

The certificate incorrectly stated the candidate’s surname as “ABISOYE” as against “ABIOYE.” This topographical error led to the certificate’s invalidation on February 25, 2013.
The university later corrected the name on the certificate with the proper surname and was reissued to the student on September 30, 2014.

In accordance with the university’s policy, the invalid certificate should have been immediately destroyed, following the issuance of the new one, the inappropriate disposal screening process resulted in the certificate inadvertently entering the public space.

Statement reads: “The invalidated certificate entered the public space due to improper screening of office waste papers prior to disposal.”
