The nationwide Industrial action, has taken effect by the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), as they shut down port operations nationwide, the organised labour has instructed workers to embark on an industrial action in respect to the demand for minimum wage increment.
This was made known on Monday 3, June 2024, by a top official of the Union that all port formations within the country should be shut down.
Report according to the official stated that all ports would remain shut until further notice from the national leadership of organised labour.
The organized labour is demanding a minimum wage of N494,000 while the federal government administration led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu rejected the proposal and insisted on N60,000 payment, this now led to labour final decision on embarking on a nationwide strike.
The labour unions confirmed their decision to proceed with the industrial action, which threatens to cripple the nation’s economic activities following their meeting with the National Assembly leadership on the minimum wage negotiation.
