Benue State’s APC stakeholders give governor condition to support administration

By Busari Kabirat

The Benue State All Progressives Congress (APC), stakeholders have given conditions to support Governor Hyacinth Alia’s administration.
Benue stakeholders insisted that the governor gives recognition to Senator George Akume, who is the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), as the State’s party leader, if not he (Alia) will not get the full support from them.

This is happening due to party internal leadership crisis which erupted through a battle for party structure control in the state between the duo, Ex-governor of the state Akume and Governor Alia. The stakeholders had on Monday scheduled a meeting in receiving Dr. Matthias Byuan, who had just gotten a new appointment from the federal government despite a directive by the state governor, banning all political gatherings in the state over security situations, but they all after the meeting agreed to continue supporting Akume as the party leader of the state.

Byuan expressed his disappointment with Alia while addressing the stakeholders during the meeting said, the governor went on air to finger him alongside other party stakeholders as those responsible for the physical violence at the party’s secretariat on Friday.

He said: “I was just coming home to show you (stakeholders) the letter of the appointment that the SGF facilitated for me.

“We were driving straight to the party office when some youths came and fought us, but our youths overpowered them and entered the secretariat before police started to shoot tear gas”.
