The Federal Government of Nigeria have started paying the withheld salaries of academics under the aegis of the Academic Staff Union of Universities.
Prof. Gbolahan Bolarin, who is the chairperson of ASUU at the Federal University of Technology, Minna, made this this known to newsmen.
Prof. Gbolahan in his words said, “Yes, it is true. Payment has started rolling in.”
In October 2023, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had approved the four out of the eight months’ salaries owned to ASUU workers by the federal government.
The salaries were withheld when the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari invoked a ‘No Work, No Pay policy’ against some university-based unions that embarked on a strike that lasted eight months in 2022.
