The four workers’ unions in Ondo State-owned tertiary institutions, which are the Joint Action Committee (JAC), has from today begin an indefinite strike after the refusal of the state government to comply with their demands.
The unions which include the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU), National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT), and Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics (SSANIP) and the four institutions comprises of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo; Ondo State University of Science and Technology Okitipupa; Ondo State University of Medical Sciences, Ondo and Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba (AAUA).
Part of the listed issues were that of the minimum wage increment which has taken effect in other places except for theirs, this made the JAC joint together to cry out to the government to cone to their rescue.
A statement containing copy of the notice of their industrial action which was signed by Tayo Ogungbeni, the JAC chairperson and Kunle Akinwonmi, the
Secretary.
JAC statement reads: “Having exhausted all means of getting our plight looked into by our Visitor – the Governor of Ondo State, Prince Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, the leadership of JAC of Ondo State tertiary institutions by this letter is sending a notice of indefinite strike with effect from Monday, 26th February 2024 until the aforementioned concerns are attended to.”
